What we are doing to show our staff we care
Alliance strives to be a great employer, ensuring our staff are healthy and thriving, so that they can deliver on our promise of a college-ready education for the scholars we serve. Yes, of course, a great curriculum, well-maintained buildings, and state-of-the-art technology are important, but according to The Measures of Effective Teaching (MET) project, a three-year study funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, “Great teaching is the most important in-school factor in determining student achievement.” We recognize that teachers cannot be great if they don’t feel satisfaction and support in their roles. This is why we have made a conscious decision to invest in our people.

Alliance is committed to being a compensation leader in the education sector. Since 2022, we have made significant investments in staff pay, with total compensation and benefits among the most competitive for education organizations in Los Angeles. Step increases remain a reliable part of our compensation structure, and we regularly benchmark salaries to ensure we remain competitive in the field.
In 2023, Alliance also became the first network in Los Angeles to offer a living wage for classified staff, reinforcing our commitment to supporting every member of our school community. Starting salaries for first-year teachers begin at $70,000, with experienced educators earning up to $130,000 depending on experience and role.
By investing in competitive compensation and long-term career pathways, Alliance aims to create stable, sustainable careers for educators. Research consistently shows that when educators feel supported and valued, they are more likely to stay in the profession. Strong retention helps build consistent, trusting relationships with scholars and families — creating the stable learning environments that allow students to thrive.
